revelations from a 12 year old!

The other day I had the privilege of picking up Miss 12 from School and later driving her to Youth. During the course of our drive, she was explaining to me why she thought sermons should be more interesting, and she gave an example of her friend, also a 12 year old, who shared in Kid’s Church just recently. She said to me, “He was talking about creation and he was drawing on a board, he isn’t really a very good drawer, but it was more interesting because there was something to look at. He talked about how God spoke all of creation into being, but He actually stooped down to form man with his own hands.”

At that very moment, I had a revelation from a 12 year old!

Firstly that my sermons should be more entertaining, but secondly about the fact that this kid was right! God actually did speak light into being and darkness into being, He spoke the ocean and the land into being, He spoke trees and animals into being, but with man, He actually took the dust of the earth and formed us. He took the rib of the man to form the woman (Genesis 2v7, 21-22). Now you are potentially sitting there reading this thinking to yourself, “Mmm hmm, welcome to the revelation we all had years ago!” and the fact is that I may have had this revelation in the past. But sitting there in the car that day, listening to this 12 year old tell me her story, I had a fresh ‘moment’ of understanding!

Miss 12 went on to tell me that God loved us so much that He actually formed and created us, He didn’t just speak us into being. What a thought! I have heard others say that God stopped on day 7 to rest because He had just created man and He wanted to sit back and admire His work!

There are two things that I absolutely love about these thoughts, I’ve realised that I can’t cover them both in one blog, so here’s the first… You and I were formed, we were moulded, we were created, we are the handiwork of our God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth! One of the biggest issues in our Society is insecurity and a lack of identity and these things bring so many issues up and cause us to say and do and feel the strangest things. I don’t believe in becoming more strong and sure of yourself, I believe in getting a revelation of WHO created you and how much He loves you, so much so that He didn’t just speak you into being, but He formed you in your Mother’s womb in the most intricate and amazing way! You are a work of art, absolutely priceless, no one could afford you except for the blood of Jesus that was shed for you – the ultimate sacrifice – His life laid down to purchase your salvation, a free gift that at times seems so hard for us to accept, yet our Creator is wooing us, pursuing us, loving on us, desperately desiring a relationship with us. If all of that isn’t enough to give you a confidence boost then I don’t know what is! I pray today that whoever you are, no matter how near or far you are to God, that you would have a revelation of His love for you and the fact that you are created in His image (Genesis 1v27) and that He is desperately longing to be close to you, no matter what you’ve done or how far you may have run! Of course we all want to be accepted and liked by people and it hurts when we are not, but there is no acceptance or love that can compare to that of God’s for you! He is our Comforter, our Counsellor, our friend who sticks closer than a brother! Turn to Him today and allow Him to reveal a little of how He sees you, through His Son Jesus; perfect, without flaw, created in His image! It’s truly amazing!

Genesis 2v7 says ‘the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.’ That word ‘being’ in Hebrew is ‘nephesh’ – the translation is basically the entirety of who you are; your passion, your life, your appetite, your mind, your desire, your emotion… all wrapped up in that moment of God breathing His breath of life – His Spirit – into you and creating who you are. Who you are destined to be. Everything about you. We spend our life trying to work out who we are, but here’s a hot tip… get into a loving, functioning, daily relationship with Him, and the more we learn about God, the more we will learn about ourselves, because we are created in His image and He has breathed His Spirit and life into you!

You are truly a miracle!

I pray that today you would have a fresh understanding of how truly precious you are! Before you respond in hurt, insecurity, bitterness or lack of identity…stop, breathe deep and remember Who created you and how lovingly He did so, not just speaking you into being but fashioning and forming you into exactly who you are today, and if you don’t like who you are, then it’s an even better reason to get close to Him – the closer you are to Him, the more you’ll become like Him!

Psalm 139v13-16 (The Message)
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.

Much love. Jodie x
